Ranse Volleyball Classic

Ranse Classic 2019 will be our 10th Anniversary and we intend to make it grand. The Ranse Classic is a beach volleyball Pro-Am tournament in memory of Ranse Jones, an avid beach volleyball player, whose life was cut short when he suffered a stroke while playing an AVP Young Guns Tournament in 2010.

Join us this year - November 1 - 3 at Deerfield Beach by the Pier for the best beach volleyball reunion on the East Coast of the US.

SONG RELEASED BY RANSE'S MOM: "LIVE SIMPLE. PLAY HARD"

Written by:  Sharon Marthinuss.

Performed by:  Brad Thomas.

Ranse's mom, Sherry Marthinuss, wrote this song for the 10th Anniversary of the Ranse Classic Pro Am Tournament coming up on November 2-3, 2019.

The Story Behind the Event

On May 8, 2010, at the age of 34, while playing in an AVP Young Guns Professional Volleyball tournament in Panama City, Florida, Flagler County Firefighter-EMT Ransford Jones was doing one of the things he loved best: playing beach volleyball, going all out—as he usually did, whatever he undertook—during a semi-final match on the sands of Panama City. Half-way through the match, he felt ill and walked off the court. Moments later he was on a gurney, being rushed to a hospital. Ranse had experienced a stroke due to a ruptured brain aneurysm. In November 2010, A group of friends gathered together and planned the initial Ranse Jones Classic to raise money for Ranse’s medical bills. The initial event was held on November 7, 2010, and Ranse passed away the next day. Since Ranse’s passing, we have been hosting this tournament to fund stroke awareness through the Ranse Jones Stroke Awareness Fund at Broward Health North. In 9 years, we have raised in excess of $270,000 and momentum is growing as we plan for the best year yet.

Live, love and laugh everyday as if it may be your last. Never take for granted the little treasures in life … especially the feel of sand on your feet, warm sun on your shoulders, a cold nose nuzzling your hand or the joy of just being there – wherever there is. Get up early to watch the sun rise. Hug your family – a lot. Let the dog in your bed. Always be a friend. And never, never turn down a chance to get out there to live simple and play hard.
